Kaalsarpa Yoga (KSY) is so called dreadful and disputed yoga in Vedic Astrology.  This yoga is formed by Rahu and Ketu when all seven planets fall between the axis of Rahu-Ketu (R/K) or Ketu-Rahu (K/R).  When all planets, falling in R/K axis, move away from Rahu, it is considered that Planets are between Rahu and Ketu.  And, when planets, falling in R/K axis, approach to Rahu, it is understood that all planets are between Ketu and Rahu.

 

Kaalsarpa Yoga finds house based interpretation. So it totally related to mundane sphere. Rahu-Ketu are regarded as malefic planets and give their malefic attributes to the houses where they appear. In the condition of KSY in a horoscope, it is believed that the significations of all planets cannot bear their fruits duly in their Dasha period. So KSY is known for bringing delaying effect in life.  Kaalsarpa yoga gets cancelled when any of the 7 planets is associated with Rahu or Ketu.

 

It has been experienced that always Kaalsarpa Yoga is not bad.  How this yoga will fructify is subject matter of composite analysis of Janma kundli.  If other planets are strong enough then KSY cannot suppress the desire of that planet successfully. So, experiences coming from KSY are dependent on overall strength of Janam Kundlee and of course Dasha Period.

 

Further, position of malefic planets in Trishaday houses is treated as good so in these houses its significations will flourish.  This is why Vasuki, Padam, Mahapadam, Shankachood and Vishdhar Kaalsarpa Yoga are considered good.

Annant Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 1st (by Rahu) and7th (by Ketu).
Kulik Kaal Sarpa Yoga: Involved houses are 2nd (by Rahu) and 8th (by Ketu).
Vasuki Kaal Sarpa Yoga: Involved houses are 3rd (by Rahu) and 9th (by Ketu).
Shankpaal Kaal Sarpa Yoga: Involved houses are 4th (by Rahu) and 10th (by Ketu).
Padam Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 5th (by Rahu) and 11th (by Ketu).
Mahapadam Kaal Sarpa Yoga: Involved houses are 6th (by Rahu) and 12th (by Ketu).
Takshak Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 7th (by Rahu) and 1st (by Ketu).
Karkotak Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 8th (by Rahu) and 2nd (by Ketu).
Shankachood Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 9th (by Rahu) and 3rd (by Ketu).
Ghatak Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 10th (by Rahu) and 4th (by Ketu).
Vishdhar Kaal Sarpa Yoga: Involved houses are 11th (by Rahu) and 5th (by Ketu).
Sheshnaag Kaal Sarpa Yoga:  Involved houses are 12th (by Rahu) and 6th (by Ketu).
